Regardless of affiliation, not thrilled with hosting a campaign event on campus. I know it's probably been done before but as a campaign event and as an alumnus and giver to the school, I'm not too happy. I know Joe sestak and Pat Toomey had a debate a few years ago- 6 or so I believe which is good exposure and experience especially for poly sci majors. This not as much. Unless there's a nice bundle of money rolling in, which I see unlikely, I can't be too happy. Perhaps our exposure will be more widespread but wish this stayed to state schools, or at least not the one i graduated from.

Boo to you.
It's a good opportunity for everyone involved, including students and school. La Salle isn't the only Philadelphia private school playing host to politicians this week, so be happy they chose La Salle. I don't see anyone visiting Philly U or Arcadia, so we should be thankful our students have this opportunity, but mostly for the exposure regardless of political affiliation.
It's likely for National Voter Registration Day.

Why would FLOTUS go to any arena that didn't have seats behind the baskets?!?!?

I just usually prefer to stay politically unaffiliated when it comes to the school as a whole. I acknowledged the possible benefits of exposure but it's a campaign event. Not a policy event which is a little disappointing.

I guess I could see it. My first thought was "This is awesome," but I'll admit if it was someone from the Trump/Pence ticket I wouldn't be as happy. So maybe the more consistent approach is explorer15's.
Still, I admit I like it. I know in '08 Chelsea Clinton did a smaller event done on South Campus when it was still primary season, but nothing along the magnitude of this.

I love that a visit from the sitting first lady is now deemed "too political".

I love that a visit from the sitting first lady is now deemed "too political". Well, to be fair, it is openly a campaign stop.

I mean, I f'ing hate Trump, but if he wins I'm not going to whine about Melania making a campus appearance. The office is the office is the office.

What an awesome thing to happen. I think the biggest celebrity to visit La Salle when I was a student was Glen from Season 2 of The Real World.

Fail to see any downside to this. Great exposure for the school.

I would like to see someone from Trump's team invited to campus, perhaps Pence. Trump is a UPenn and Wharton School graduate who has accomplished great things in his lifetime. He built an ice skating rink in NYC under-budget and ahead of schedule by hiring experts from Canada. He is smart enough to surround himself with experts. He has a great opportunity to win Pennsylvania and almost all of the swing states as his movement is for real. Trump is definitely not in favor of using tax dollars to support the abortion-on-demand industry and worse (places like Planned Parenthood)... unfortunately many politicians including President Obama and his wife are. This is the downside to inviting Mrs. Obama to our Catholic university. I hope Madam Pres will revoke the invitation immediately.

Explorer15 said he wasn't in favor of any campaigning being done at the University, and the rest of us were debating that argument. Then you, like you always do, took it off in another, insane direction. shit in your hat.

Since when is being pro-life "insane"? It's not. Bringing that into the conversation totally out of nowhere, and then suggesting anyone who's not Pro-Life not be allowed to speak at the University is.

Among many other things. Although I'll admit the post did open my eyes to a new way of analyzing readiness to lead the nation so, on the basis of "did this one job under-budget once", I'd like to officially nominate the dude who just finished my bathroom for President of the United States of America. Vote Guy in 2016!

I've always been very conflicted by the name "Guy". On one hand, it's a cool name. On the other hand, you can call everyone guy - like "thanks, guy." But what if your name was Guy, and you just helped a random guy with something, and he says "Thanks, guy." All of a sudden, you think some random guy knows you're Guy, but meanwhile he just thinks you're a guy...
So, MisterD... did you happen to ask Guy if he was a pro-life guy?!
Edit: Oh, no. I just realized Guy Fieri is a guy... This is an unforgivable mistake. Guy is the worst name in the world, and he shove that insult up his butt on the way to Flavortown USA.

He built an ice skating rink in NYC under-budget and ahead of schedule by hiring experts from Canada. Didn't pay them.He is smart enough to surround himself with experts. Like Roger Ailes and Steve Bannon.
He has a great opportunity to win Pennsylvania and almost all of the swing states as his movement is for real. Spam was "real"
This is the downside to inviting Mrs. Obama to our Catholic university. I hope Madam Pres will revoke the invitation immediately. She's clamored about having her there, so good luck with that.

If anyone goes let us know what she says about the school. Also get a mic and camera in her face and ask her to say Explorers Are Never Lost.

There really is no comparison to an accomplished businessman and unaccomplished politician of 26 years whose made a lifetime of "bad" i.e. criminal decisions (Comey was called back into Congress today to explain the 5 aides who were given immunity - how was no one indicted??? If you grant immunity it means someone committed a high-level crime.)

I'm just going to ignorantly believe that CoachD & MisterD are the same person with a multiple-personality disorder or something... The plot lines would write themselves - one's an outspoken conservative that can't stop enticing people, while the other is a witty and sarcastic jerk that wins the affection of Explorertown. On next week's episode of the Big D Theory, MisterD introduces CoachD to peanut butter and ham sandwiches...
