I've always wondered what a half of a person looks like? Do they split them vertically or horizontally? One of life's great unanswered questions I suppose.

I think it's horizontally.... you need both sides of the brain but not necessarily your legs.
23.5 rounds to 24 more fans in my book. Will someone please keep me apprised of these attendance measures? Thanks in advance
In all seriousness, this is a remarkable improvement versus prior year. Do we have an idea on how many students that is? If there were 500 kids in last year's class, that means there are an extra 235 students. That's increasing overall enrollment by more than 10% if we assumed 500 in each class right?

For what it's worth, and I don't have final numbers, but as of yesterday at 5 PM, deposits for freshman enrollment at La Salle were up 47% over where they were last year at the same time. Things are moving in a positive direction at 20th & Olney. Heard via the grapevine that the Fall, 2017 ( Class of 2021 ) freshman class enrollment will be at least 900 students. GlitterBro#2 can you confirm this ?

Haven't seen final #'s from the May 1 decision day (although some also enroll at La Salle after that)...but it was around 865 or so at 5 PM on May 1st. This is really positive news for La Salle and the new branding, tuition cut, and hard work of the admissions office really made this happen.

The merger a couple years ago was great for both sides. I like the name change but it will always be Textile to me.

Just heard at a meeting tonight that the latest number of freshman deposits for Fall 2017 is 929. That's a tremendous achievement for La Salle...and it could grow over the next few weeks.

Among other notable parallels :
1. A number of Hawk Hill message board members would like both their AD and their Head MBB coach of many years standing to retire asap ;
2. They have " buyer's remorse " regarding the 2008-09 $20 million Hagan Arena Renovation ( characterized as " lipstick on a pig " ), which failed to add a meaningful number of new seats ( added 1000 new seats behind the baskets, bringing the total seating capacity to only 4200 seats ) instead of the desired 6000 + seats ;
3. General sentiment that SJU badly " squandered " the unique opportunity the University was presented with and failed to strategically capitalize on the 2003-2004 Jameer Nelson / Delonte West 30-2 NCAA basketball Season to achieve " liftoff " to raise their national profile both in MBB recruiting and in dramatically increasing freshmen enrollment Applications and tightening SJU's recent ( considered unacceptable ) much more relaxed ( 83 % ) academic Acceptance standards; and
4. Now that the money's already been spent, there is no chance in the foreseeable future of SJU being again in a position to compete on the level of comparable-size basketball schools like Gonzaga, Creighton, Xavier and Dayton who have leveraged their NCAA Tourney successes and other opportunities much more prudently.
In the same spirit, with regards to Villanova's Pavilion renovations: Dayton announces plan for $72 million renovation of arena.

Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth show the way ... once again.
By way of recapping recent past history : Approx. 15 years ago, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Northeast Phila., who owned and operated Nazareth Hospital, Holy Family University and Nazareth Academy, due to ( among other things ) declining vocations to the sisterhood and the fact that most of their nuns were elderly, opted to sell their crown jewel Nazareth Hospital for a large sum of money ( $75 million ? ) to a local consortium of Catholic Hospitals. The proceeds were intended ultimately to fund nursing care for the nuns of the Order as they retired.
Meanwhile the beautiful 150 acre Thiokol Chemical headquarters campus at the confluence of I-95 and Route 313 in Newtown, Bucks County had been languishing for sale on the market for several years. Being suddenly flush with cash and looking for a place to invest some of this money until it was otherwise needed, the good Sisters purchased the Thiokol property, quickly had it subdivided, and sold about half of the land to aerospace defense manufacturer Lockheed Martin's Satellite Engineering Division, for more money than the good Sisters had paid for the entire 150 acre Thiokol tract a year or two before. The Sisters then used the proceeds of the land sale to Lockheed Martin to build-out their Holy Family University Newtown campus on their remaining 79 acres. To say that this bold and decisive action by the Sisters of Nazareth stunned the local real estate community, and the other universities and corporations who had considered buying the Thiokol property at the time but had hesitated too long, would be an understatement.
Fast forward : In today's Phila. Inquirer Business Section ( " Briefcase " on page A-10 ), it is reported that Holy Family University has entered into a partnership with developer NewCourtland Senior Services, whereby NewCourtland is acquiring the 32 acre former Liddonfield public housing site from PHA for the sum of $5.5 million in order to construct on the 12 acre West side tract senior housing and a health and community center, with the remaining 20 acres ( East side tract ) immediately adjacent to the HFU campus to be developed as athletic fields for Holy Family University, with no capital contribution from the good Sisters, other than that, in return, HFU has committed to PHA to donate $1 million in future college scholarships to needy local area residents.

BAM ! I think most orders of nuns take perpetual vows but if a nun was behind all of these moves I say give her a 7 year extension...

Anyone else thinking we should bring in the nuns to be the La Salle BOT... with smarts like that we'd have our 7,500 seat on-campus arena already built and paid for. Hell we may even be able to push Temple into Center City.

Hell we may even be able to push Temple into Center City. Or give our current board the proceeds of an asset sale similar to the good nun's "crown jewel Nazareth Hospital for a large sum of money ($100 million?) to a local consortium of Catholic Hospitals." I'll take the current La Salle BOT, who have taken some bold, smart steps without a pot of gold to work with.

As my avatar suggests, and as hard as it is for me to believe, tomorrow I am attending my 50th Anniversary Class of 1967 Reunion on campus this Commencement Weekend. Tempus Fugit !
Looking back, I owe a great deal of whatever successes I have achieved in my personal life and in my professional career to the excellent education and moral foundation I received while a student at La Salle University. My five closest friends ( and fellow MBB season tickets holders ) to this day are the friends that I met at La Salle. None of us knew each other before our freshman year at La Salle ( where we were required to wear "dink" hats, dress shirts, ties, school blazers and had mandatory Army ROTC drills for our freshman and sophomore years ! ). We also spent virtually every Saturday night during basketball season attending the Big Five doubleheaders at the Palestra.
