This was Broderick's post, which I've copied and posted here, but I'll delete mine if he reposts himself:87-88 was a weird season in that they went 0-4 in big 5 and then undefeated in conference. Nearly knocked off #1 Temple at Mcgonigle. Played a VERY small lineup with 6'6" Craig Conlin (who was a bull and a deadeye mid range shooter) at center and 6'6" Lionel at the 4. 3 guards started: seniors Richie Tarr and Tim Legler, and a raw freshman Doug Overton, who was not yet nearly the player he'd be even a year later. Bobby Johnson off the bench was also not yet at the level he'd be a year later. Tarr and Legler were amazing shooters and the team had a dangerous offense, but was simply too small to play consistently strong defense against the bigger opponents on the schedule. Lost in the 1st round to a Kansas state team that went all the way to the elite 8 before losing to eventual champs Danny and the miracles. Mitch Richmond was an absolute stud and would step into the NBA and score 20+ ppg from day one the following season. College hoops used to have that kind of talent back then. This team lost Legs and Tarr, but became much bigger the following season, with Dougie developing into an outstanding 6'3" PG, jack Hurd coming in and being a rock solid 6'6" SG, Lionel sliding to the 3, Conlin to the 4 and a very raw Milko at the 5. 87-88 had a 5-gm losing streak against very strong opponents after Xmas. At byu, who had scoring machine and celtics draft pick Michael smith. Vs Notre Dame with David rivers. At UNC with jr Reid, Scott Williams and many others (train set a smith center record with 37 in the loss), at Richmond (sweet 16 team) and 3-or loss to #1 temple at Mcgonigle. Other losses included Georgia with future NBA starter Willie Anderson and NBA center Alec Kessler and vs an elite 8 nova team. The bad losses were vs penn and at joe's. The season was missing marquee wins, though. They mainly just beat teams they should have and came VERY close to slaying some Giants. Those would come the following 2 seasons Read more: explorertown.proboards.com/thread/1776/got-suggestion-year-review#ixzz3bUG0JEor

I remember watching this game in my apartment at Theresa Court. K St. was dominant. Leglar said Mitch Richmond was the best guard he ever played against. He said he was so strong and played lock down D. We went to the tournament so many years in a row that it became expected. I wish we could get back to getting to the tourny a little more often. Our MAAC schedule never prepared us for tourny competition. Beating K St. on our Sweet 16 run was so nice. Now lets get back in and knock of La Tech, Clemson , and Seton Hall.

The team may have been even better if Milko had not gotten hurt. He was a medical redshirt and, like the joker, spent the year on the sideline in a cast (Bye-bye Miss American Pie reference just for Glorydays). At the time we were impressed with Milko's dexterity and mobility with his crutches and predicted great things for him.

The 6 guys that played meaningful minutes were all 6-6 or shorter. The teams we had roughly 5 years ago that dominated the glass, but struggled to make basketball plays were cruely ironic since I felt for years that if we ever got to a point where we could compete on the glass and guard the rim, that we could be a VERY good team. Well, we finally had some of those types, and then everything else went missing. This 87-88 team shot over 40pct from deep, with Legler going 104-212. The 3-pt line was in its second season at that point. I wonder how many fewer wins they'd have had without it
