The article does read as if bj is immediately eligible for 15-16. I would think he needs to sit a year but sanctions against Syracuse could impact that I suppose. Also, G talking about developing Rokas. Redshirt?

Also, G talking about developing Rokas. Redshirt? I don't think I would read "joining the team" as immediately eligible to play. I don't think Syracuse's sanctions have anything to do with his eligibility unless they have changed the rules on that.

Also, G talking about developing Rokas. Redshirt? You are onto something... I am certainly not going to confirm it.. but when I heard about this topic last month about G believing that BJ would immediately available, I was hesitate to say anything because I couldn't piece together how it would be possible... But seeing how apparently I have no creditability, right, Edwards, 15 and KJMac? I would figure and share that I have heard from someone whom I trust completely that G said he thought BJ was available immediately.. This school release article does read like this.. So maybe there is validity to this.. At least something to investigate further...

Does anybody know what Rokus stats were for his senior year in high school? From the video I saw it looks like he likes to block shots. Can't tell what type of rebounder or scorer he is.

In the article, they would disclose when BJ would be available, if it was at a later time. If I recall correctly, the school did that in the Price, Roberts and Garland official transfer press releases... which would lead to someone to conclude that it would happen again here with BJ... But they didn't provide an eligibility start date.. Regardless, very interesting situation..

Fairness and logic would dictate a free transfer out of sanctions a kid wasn't involved in but we all know the NCAA is anything but fair and logical.

Wow that makes me think he is eligible. Odd....
Someone has to know if he is or isn't.

I heard back when BJ committed that La Salle was considering requesting immediate eligibility for him but hadn't heard anything since. Him and his father seemed content with him using the redshirt year to get physically stronger and work on his perimeter skills.
The argument for getting immediate eligibility was because Syracuse basically took his scholarship away since they only have ten for 2015-16 and wanted to use it on their highly-ranked recruiting class.
I have no idea if he's eligible or if it's a poorly worded press release.

I remember his Dad talking about how young he is for his class and that they planned to "take him off the track and put him in the depot" to become more physically mature. He said that he may be 6-8 and 220 when he returns and everyone should watch out.

do we prefer a year of mediocre basketball (w/o BJ in '15-'16) followed by two years of NIT/NCAA and one year of TBD, or four years in and out of NIT (w/ BJ '15-'17 and Pookie '16-'19)?

Honestly NIT/NCAA aside it is impossible to know what to expect from this team this season and going forward. I don't see any advantage one way or another if he plays now or sits. 16-17 is the most important season in my mind right now but things change. If it is our best shot at the tournament I rather him play this year.

I was told last month that La Salle could not seek anything with regard to B J Johnson's eligibility until he completed the semester at Syracuse and then enrolled at La Salle. Yesterday was the first day of the first Summer School Semester.
For what it's worth, I was told it would be a long shot for B J to get a waiver for this year.

If you look at BJ's Twitter account he is playing in Gola and the caption pretty much tells me he is sitting out this year.

Comcast sports network on the bottom of the screen ticker said he is sitting out next year. Did anybody find any stats on Rokas?

Pookie is official and is sitting out next year per NCAA rules. I like the idea of having BJ and Pookie redshirt together this season. That way they'll have two years together to seek tournament qualification and Pookie will provide experience and senior leadership in his third year of eligibility.

Overall, it would be better for the team if we sit Johnson and Ulyvidas for 1 year and endure a bad team this upcoming season because we will have a sweet sixteen caliber team in 2016-2017 and it will be well worth it.

Can't sit Ulydas IMO. Two first year frontcourt players in Yvgen and Washington will struggle with foul trouble and God forbid either gets hurt we have no size at all. The frontcourt is young and will struggle and make mistakes. We desperately need Rokas' size.

Definition of "bad"? "bad" as in middle of the pack Atlantic 10 team, still competing with top teams, just not good enough for tournament or anything, basically the same play as the previous two seasons.

Rumor has it, Rokas is far from polished... basically just like Tony last season.

So you don't think he'll contribute for us this year? I'm going to go way, WAY out on a limb here and say Rokas will not contribute for us this year. In fact, I'm going to be bold enough to predict that he won't even get 1 minute of playing time...but of course, I could be wrong. What do I know?
