To anyone who went. Was there anything notable that occurred at the basketball banquet? Any recruiting rumors, good speeches by G or the players, anything?

I was in attendance for the banquet but had to leave prior to dinner and speeches. However, I did have an opportunity to speak with Pappy and Will and both have been hitting the road hard. Pappy was in attendance at the Boo Williams events in Virginia and Will was on the road in the South and Midwest as well. Furthermore, I had a chance to speak with John and congratulate him on a winning season. It may have been a disappointing season to some, but I remember a time when we would have begged for just a +.500 season. I also mentioned Prague and he was very excited about the opportunity for Tony and Eugene to play with thier teammates in live game situations. John seemed extremely excited about Tony Washington and his progress. It is my opinion that Coach is very high on Tony Washington. Finally, I congratulated him on the two recruits that we have signed and his comment was that they will be very good sophomores. Hope this was insightful.

Just wanted to add a little to Delsu's post. When Pappy and Will were on the road, G was also on the road watching prospects. He did not expect any additional signings for 2015, but added that there was a small chance of a 5th year player. G did his normal great job as he spoke about every team member at the banquet. He was factual, but did so in a way that made everyone feel pretty good. He spoke about how well the team played against the top half of the A10, but challenged the returning players to bring it every day and take care of business against the bottom half of the league. The seniors each spoke and represented themselves and the school very well. It was obvious that they like each other and a recurring theme was that they liked and respected G because he was always honest with them. Several of them also mentioned Pappy being like a second father to them. G also mentioned that Jerrell, who had his number retired at Dobbins this year, would also be a commencement speaker there this June.

This is a thread about celebrating the team and the players and you post your pointless dreck. The guy was a good player for the team and played hard. He was a valuable contributor on our Sweet 16 run. I have no problem with free speech on the board, but there's a time and place for everything. You contributed nothing as Bulldog of Bergen and you're contributing nothing now. Keep it up and you'll be shown the door a second time.

I found Jerrell to be slightly more athletic than I thought last season. He had some nimble moves around the basket in the last few games.
Also, I remember at least two times last year when he hustled up the floor for a breakaway pass requiring him to catch it and take a few dribbles before slamming it down. I think on each occasion the opposing smaller/quicker player running him down thought JW wouldn't be able to maintain speed dribbling and they fully expected to be able to chase him down or strip him. Didn't happen and Jerrell got there first for the score. It showed some skill on his part.

He was a valuable contributor on our Sweet 16 run. I would posit he played a vital role and without his clutch execution we wouldn't have reached the height of our program over the past 60+ years. I would also postulate that Bulldogs are dumb as rocks.

I love Jerrell. This next season is my 20th and he's on my all-lifetime team. I will be forever grateful to Jerrell and the rest of the 2012-13 team for taking this team further than any La Salle team in my lifetime. His clutch play against K-State was the difference between a second round flameout and the Sweet 16. But one of the most impressive things to me about Jerrell was the classy way he handled himself on the floor. I've never seen a big man get less calls than him. For four years, he got slapped, pushed, and downright abused on the low block while not getting very many calls. And NOT ONCE did I ever see him get in a ref's face or show up a ref. After the numerous bad calls and non-calls involving him, he would just look towards the bench and either shrug his shoulders or lift his arms up in disbelief. If anyone on the team was justified to get technical fouls, it was him. Best of luck to him, Steve, and D.J. Three special kids who I feel lucky to have cheered for.

Well put! scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=3308123066-6 from the floor; 9-10 from the free throw line; 8 rebounds. Can't do much better than that.

Not to detract from Jerrell as I agree with each and every positive and thankful post. But your comment about getting punished and not getting any calls goes back to previous posts about the merits of a coach drawing a "T" at the right time to protect his guys and focus attention on this stuff. (Not to even mention the comparisons posted about G's interaction with refs relative to the Jay Wright's and coach K's of the world).

When I posted this, I thought to myself how long before someone critiques G's handling of the refs. It just never ends.

This has been what I've been saying for months about the kid. I had to chance to speak with him after the banquet and he is so appreciative of everything La Salle has done for him. He told me that he will always be close to the school and the program.
He told me that he was on La Salle's campus practically every day after he committed.
He might have only one direction but not many could stop him. Not many in La Salle history have more points and rebounds combined as he does.

If you want to diss Jerrell here you have to first be willing to show him the post and then arm wrestle him. If he approves it and you beat him in arm wrestling, you can post. New rule.
