MOD EDIT ******* This is a continuation of a prior recruiting thread, found here: explorertown.proboards.com/thread/815/more-recruiting-names******** Since Joe is having a hard time I thought I would start a new thread for recruiting names for 2015 and 2016. Personally, I think we will go hard after two positions. First and most important is PG. The name currently we have been linked to is Tony Carr 6-4 from Roman. (BTW he is Marvin Harrison's nephew). Carr will be to tough signee. Off his PIAA run he will get more and more offers from P5 schools. I know Penn State has been to a lot of games. He along with Naseer Bostick and Lamar Stevens are good friends and make a lot of official visits together. Donofrio started last night and I hope to make a couple of night to see players linked to us. The AAU season will start up later this Spring and I hope to get some updates throughout the season. Second target IMO should be a PF that can shoot. For old timers, 6-8 Larry Koretz type. There are a couple out there in the Northeast.

I dont think we have a shot at Carr. I think "G" realizes this also. "G" hasnt been on him as hard as other coaches have been, especially Turgeon from Maryland.

Hopefully Carr doesn't work at his uncle's car wash

Granted he was 6'8" and bulky but the man camped out on the three point line. Didn't exactly mix it up inside.

From right around that same era, I think Jim Wolkiewicz (had to look up the spelling)was definitely one of those workmanlike type players. Always looked to rebound.

Skyman, Jim Crawford was one of my favorites. crawford was only 6-4 but played like 6-8 with his great leaping ability. I think Jim played around 73/74 but I am probably wrong.

How about Kenny Durrett? Started playing in 1968.

G was at the PCL Championship game sitting near the entrance to the Roman locker room (strategic location to be seen by Roman players).

Crawford played in the early 70s. He was on my favorite La Salle team. Durrett's senior year, 1971. Played with Durrett, Bobby Fields, Ron Kennedy and Greg Canon was the PG. Had a class with him. He wasn't much of a talker.

Did decent job with defensive rebounding.

On the PG front, who are some good Philly area candidates besides Carr?
In watching the tourney, there were a lot of lower seed teams with great point guards (who obviously were not top 150/ACC/Big 10 recruits). I actually would prefer a player with a good shot and good vision, even if the handle is not perfect. I think G can develop defense, and guys can work on the handle, but if you don't have a shot in HS, it ain't gonna develop later. If we run a spread, the PG needs to have an outside shot.
I'd prefer a Philly PG, but would be happy if we got someone the ACC overlooked in the DC area, especially a WCAC player.

Watching Maryland unable to get to halfcourt, I'll still put handle first.

Tall, skinny, mop of blonde hair I believe. You're right, he did have a good jump shot.

Handle is important if indeed the shot clock is shortened to 24/30 there will be a lot more teams pressing. So athletic guys that can handle and get up and down the court will be at a premium. Good thing is running a four guard team maybe beneficial. Looking for guys like BJ that have room to grow into their frame is perfect. A point guard with a great handle and court vision to me is more important than a shooting pg.

Handle is definitely crucial from the PG. If it's not then you might as well have Price be the PG. PGs don't have to be great shooters. They need to have ball handling ability, play solid D and have really good vision in order to get easy buckets for players...

... might as well have Rodney ...
(Which isn't a knock on Rodney, he just wasn't a PG. Most guys aren't.)

I say give Shuler a chance because he has a good handle and can shoot but was given very little opportunity. Even when he played well the very next game he usually didn't see the floor or did see the floor between his feet.

Not really connected but Gordon is transferring from UMass. He's able to transfer immediately. Not that he'll go to an A-10 rival but just an odd transfer.

It is strange that he's transferring though. The UMASS board was not all that thrilled with him this season. Biggest complaint was his poor shooting.

Just read that Morton from UMass can transfer and not have to sit out. Said he is the first openly gay college basketball player. Why doesn't he have to sit out after he transfers?

I feel like you guys are just making up names now. "What about Rod Brickman? Now that's a PF we could use!"
