Cool blog post detailing the most "high leverage" NCAA Tournament games of the last 5 years. La Salle/Ole Miss is 3rd on the list, but the 28 straight high-leverage minutes to end the game was the longest uninterrupted stretch: kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/the_most_tense_of_the_ncaa_tournament3. (13) La Salle 76, (12) Mississippi 74, 3/24/13, Third Round, West Regional Win probability to start game: Mississippi (60.0%) Percentage of high-leverage game time: 72.5% (1,739 high-leverage seconds out of 2,400 total) Longest string of high-leverage possessions: 8:16 left in first half (La Salle up 25-20) until end of game Comments: This wild game featured the span’s longest string of unbroken high-leverage basketball—ending on over 28 minutes of high-leverage possessions. Mississippi’s win probability reached as high as 85 percent after a Reginald Buckner layup made it 69-64 with 4:18 to go. Tyrone Garland’s basket—dubbed a “Southwest Philly Floater”— with two seconds left sent the Explorers to the Sweet 16. (PBP, WP Graph)

He was the fastest player in the country. Nobody could stay in front of him 2 years ago.

Its weird, I remember the K-State game in full detail and this one is just a blur + the floater. I think the entire run shorted out my brain.

More alcohol consumed the further we progressed... also for the first time in awhile Explorer alums could actually go out in public houses, aka pubs, and watch games without throwing a fit of rage!

Before I make a post I was thinking about:
Does anyone recall/know what La Salle University did to celebrate and commemorate the Sweet 16 year? I mean the athletic department, the administration, and everybody. Did anyone try to get Simmons, Overton, Legler, Rasual Butler, Raftery, Bobby Johnson, Milko (lol), Corace, Hubie Marshall, Randy Woods, Rodney Green, Jim Crawford etc, etc, etc together for a big bash to really set things in motion going forward by creating all kinds of excitement and giving recognition for what was accomplished? By getting the whole campus to recognize and relate to what was accomplished? Something which recruits would become aware of or attend if allowed to?

There was definitely a ceremony before the Manhattan game, as well

There was definitely a ceremony before the Manhattan game, as well This is the only ceremony I remember. I don't remember one at halftime of a game. I thought it was a crappy ceremony and what's even worse, the team was in the locker room during the unfurling of the banner. Of course we then went out and laid an egg against Manhattan. That was the beginning of a bad season which has been followed by another mediocre season.

G did not let the team witness the event since he was concerned about the team looking to the past and not to the future. Total bullshit. I thought it was a bad omen at the time and it was.

You could be right. I thought it was pre-game, but I'm not 100% positive. You are right about it being total bull that the team wasn't out there. I thought the whole ceremony was ill planned and the fact that the team wasn't out there to celebrate a HUGE accomplishment really left a bad taste in my mouth.

A bad idea by G - just dumb. But what I was getting at is people blaming G for not taking advantage of the Sweet 16 year in recruiting. I was thinking maybe the University as a whole and obviously the Athletic Department also did just about zero to capitalize on the vibe. If they had done anything even remotely creative to celebrate and commemorate the achievement by doing something to create a campus wide atmospheric buzz, it might have aided in recruitment. The school could have reached out to the media describing what they were doing for publicity. But you can't do that if you basically do nothing in the first place.. IMO, it seems all the a University and Athletic Dept have done to (help) the program is to have us saddled with a dump for an arena. This could have been an opportunity.
