Opponents are shooting 28.7% on 2-pointers against them. That's not a typo. That's tied with Kentucky's army of giants for best in the country. For perspective, the national average on 2s is 47.2%. They're also blocking 23.6% of opponent's 2s (2nd in the country to Kentucky). Also, only 4 teams out of 351 player a slower pace (one of which is American, who we play later in the season---they're coached by a former Carril Princeton player in Mike Brennan). This game is going to be absolutely brutal unless we can hit some 3s. The *weakness* of this UVA D is that they allow opponents to shoot a lot of 3s (a sounder strategy in the early days of the pack-line d, but one that now leaves a Goliath vulnerable to an unusually hot David). They also don't force too many turnovers, but their opponents are too busy missing shots to turn it over. All things considered, their D ranks 3rd to Kentucky & Louisville on Kenpom.com
A good sign for us is that our D is also top-10 in effective FG% (8th in the country, right behind UVA at 7th). I hate that we've struggled with some low caliber teams to this point, but our experience fighting through slumps could come in handy vs UVA. I'd love to see Jordan Price shoot from anywhere on the floor against them and maybe get them a little stretched out. I'm talking those Randy Woods/Kareem Townes deeeep 3s (as I think it's our best/only shot), which I think Price can do when he's feeling comfortable. David's got to wield his slingshot

Great coach and a team first mentality, which naturally you would think of a team that has been wildly successful the last 2 years without those Top 50 recruits...

Ha, I loved Ramon, but I'd probably but 1 or 2 less "e"s in the spelling of deep for him compared to Woods/Townes...Speedy used to give some of his guys the sort of license you rarely see anymore. Was fun to watch when they were cooking and maddening when they were not. At any rate, UVA is suffocating to the point that we may need a couple of those shots (if they give them to him) to loosen things up a bit.

As much as I'm worried about their D and our O, I think our D needs to worry about this dude -
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein Virginia's Justin Anderson is on an absolute TEAR. 6-6 lefty has made 15-22 3-point shots to start the year. 68.2% from 3. Shot 29% last yr.

UVA could be REALLY ugly. Strong D, good offense...athletic...shot blockers.
Both Jerrel and Zach play under the rim so they could be minimized and frustrated offensively which could lead to dumb fouls. A game like this is a prime example of where a mid-range jumper and baby hook from Zach would be HUGE for Jerrel. Price needs to keep his hot shooting from last game and players like Roberts and DJ NEED to hit their perimeter shots, early! Stukes needs to pick his spots and set-up other players. Lewis' D will be big and he'll need to pick his dribble drives.
If this team is able to continue playing strong D and hold UVA to under 40% shooting while limiting our TOs, then we'll have a shot. Doesn't matter how you win or how you play...just win.
