Per his Twitter.
Welcome to the family Karl.
Could be a steal and severely under-recruited.

Welcome to La Salle Karl.
One IL Hoop site has him rated #20 in the state. Here is a video of last year's game against Chicago power house Whitney Young.
BTW, De La Salle Institute is a very highly acclaimed school in Chicago.

My quick research shows we were the best program offering him. I still hope we can land a big man in this class.

I knew it was only a matter of weeks before we got a commit. This is from I been able to dig up. He has taken a number of unofficial visits to some high major programs. He had a really good July where he numerous coaches came to see him.
"Their 2015 guard Karl Harris is a unique prospect with his long and wiry frame. He can handle the ball in traffic and is fast with it end to end with his long strides. Harris has a tendency to score in bunches. He can attack the hoop off the dribble and continues to develop his perimeter shot. With his long arms and athleticism he should grow into a plus defender once he adds more strength."
Karl Harris - SG From: Chicago, IL School: De La Salle AAU: Illinois Stars Ht: 6'4" Wt: 165
OFFERS Chicago State Wright State Florida International St. Francis (PA) SIUE Toledo Penn La Salle
INTEREST Rhode Island Butler Wisconsin DePaul Illinois State Iowa Iowa State Longwood Loyola (MD) Loyola-Chicago Valparaiso Xavier West Virginia
In terms of his interest. From what I found Xavier, West Virginia, and Wisconsin were still expressing interest in July in him.

Some unfortunate circumstances this summer led to Harris' falling into our laps. Before the summer he was rated to be on the same level as Isiah Moss who is highly regarded. His stock fell due to poor performance from his AAU team.
He is more athletic right now than anyone we have at guard. Solid kid with decent grades. Well worth the shot because his upside could be very beneficial if he reaches it.

kyprephoops.com/1314/2013OctILBoys.htmlkyprephoops.com/1415/2014SeptILBoys.pdfHere some rankings for you. Explorer88 is right his rankings fell but def a player with some upside. The odd things is as I searched through all of this I found him listed as a PF, F, SG, PG, Wing and 2G. Clearly the kids going to be a little bit of a project. Going to have to keep a close eye on him this season and seeing how he performs his senior year.

Good job by Coach getting future depth at the guard position. Looks like Karl could fit in nicely here. Now hopefully Coach can get that talented big we need.

Welcome Karl. I'm hoping based on what I'm seeing here that we brought him in before his stock went up this season. I definitely like the idea of G getting in to Chicago to recruit.

My immediate reaction is that Brother Ed is not going to appreciate his spelling of "Combo Gaurd". Welcome to La Salle, Karl. Now let's get a big man.

Redshirt candidate... Echo what 88 was saying.. Athlete first, skills second.. High major athleticism that could use a year and develop a perimeter that has not developed into what a Division 1 player needs to have success..
He is the type of the player that never needed to work on his jump shot because he could just take you to the hoop because he was that athletic..
Like 88 said, the most athletic guard on the roster right now.. If he could develop a consistent jump shot, then look out..
Considering all variables give him a year off next year, Shuler, Lewis, Roberts, Price and Shuler (even our European sensation at the 3) could man the 1-3 spots next year and give him time to work on the jump shot. I do warn that Giannini might need to find a shooting coach because I have not liked the trends I have seen with players sitting out to develop their perimeter game the last 2-3 years.
Heck reach out to ESPN and see if we can sign Legler to a consulting, once a week session with the kids that take the year off to work on their shot.. Whoever we need to see improvement...

I would be the happiest guy if they brought Legler in to assist the program in any way. Also I searched and searched and couldn't find stats for Karl anywhere. I think he is a clear redshirt candidate but your right his athleticism is excellent. Let's see how his senior year goes perhaps it will be a strong one. G had seen him play before and has been to De La Salle numerous times. If anyone remembers that Michigan State player we were trying to land Alvin Ellis III. Karl Harris played right along side him. His shot doesn't look too bad either but obviously needs to be fine tuned. Another issue I see is that it seems as though he needs a clear role and position. It is often you see players change their position around but I never seen anything like Karl's. If I were to guess this is the guy G is replacing Petersen with. Pretty similar skill set IMO.

But see him as an upgrade (skill set wise). Per what I see in the films---more athletic, , faster, quicker, better handle, more lift.... He actually has a jump shot. Nice form to stroke. His senior year will tell alot but perhaps a genuine "sleeper" get. This is not meant to be a knock on DJ. I am a fan.

I will trust G on this one and yes he is athletic. Probably could play 2 or 3 position and who knows maybe he will grow another inch or so and fill out his wiry frame. When watching video can anyone tell me his jersey number.

He is more athletic than Petersen... More spring.. Plays larger than his listed 6'4...
I love G's idea of taking a player per recruiting class that are missing 1 or 2 attributes to be a very successful A-10 or Division 1 player... Bring him for a year to allow to get collegiate level coaching and time to develop those skill sets..
It seems the last several players he has taken for the backcourt have all lacked the perimeter shot.. Garland, Lewis, Stukes and now Harris...
Garland well that speaks for itself..
Lewis (I know I have heard injury) but he was a weak shooter in high school, at Delaware and now in season 1 at La Salle (even reports were of an inconsistent release point during his sit out year). Even in his first go around at La Salle his release point was inconsistent (which isn't affected by a wrist injury, his finish absolutely but not before you get there).
And I hope it changes but I am hearing similar reports out of camp over the last year with Stukes. He def has a more settled shot and sits more which is great for open looks and a consistent release points but lacks the release. Again, I wasn't at the open practice but it seems the reports were more of the same...
Giannini needs to get someone in there to help with this crucial skill set..

Trivia question, there was another Big 5 player from DeLaSalle in Chicago. It was awhile ago but he was a starter on a top 20 team. He also had the strangest routine preparing to shoot free throws that I have seen. Thought I would throw it out there.

Lol, no this guy used to hold the ball over his head and pump it towards the basket three or four times, like the ball was wet and he was trying to shake water out of it. I won't drag it out since it was a long time ago, it was Larry Moody, starting C/F of the 71-72 Villanova NCAA team. From memory, but I'm pretty sure he went to DeLaSalle.

yes - a little weird, but they do say "De La Salle" a lot...
Best piece of that story was hearing how Karl ripped 5 threes in the game.

To me, if he's that good and can help the team win then he should be good enough to push for minutes immediately. We're not Duke or Kentucky, nor are we a high-major or BCS school...our players are good but flawed and really only big men projects should be redshirted. I honestly don't really believe in redshirting for basketball to be honest. It should be the exception, not the norm.

Eh, if the kid is ok with it, I see no reason not to. Its not like we give freshmen a ton of run, right?

Freshmen may not get a ton of run, but if he brings something to the table to make a contribution right away then he should be out there. It's up to G to recognize that ability earlier. I think he took too long this year to shift from DJ to Roberts...one could argue that Shuler should've gotten more burn as well.

Shuler is a good example. Maybe he should have played more or maybe he was the cliched beloved backup QB but the fact remains we lost a year of eligibility over 142 total minutes. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
