I mean, it's not a really tough schedule, but I have no idea what kind of team we have next year.

I think that if Nova and Temple weren't Big 5 teams and thus givens on the schedule, we'd like this schedule more. We have plenty of "name" opponents and enough tough middies and a few cupcakes.

Exactly. It would have been nice to have Miami on the schedule. However, this is a typical schedule for G Nova, Temple and Virginia(if we can beat Rutgers) will be our chance for top 50 wins in the non conference which is fine seeing how difficult our A10 schedule is. We play Dayton and UMass twice, VCU away, and GW at home. Saint Louis and SJU probably won't have enough to return to the tournament. Richmond and Rhode Island however could emerge.
Also, a number of the mid major opponents could be quality top 100 wins. American is easily the favorite in the Patriot return everyone but one player. Quinn has been good for the past few years, should compete for a MAAC title again. St Peters and St Francis NY should be pretty good too, return nearly everyone and Francis gets a few kids back from suspension. Towson lost 4 senior starters they won't be good. Hofstra will probably be our toughest game away. They have quite a few impact transfers available and were young last year. Drexel should also be okay as well. Don't really think there is many terrible teams on the schedule with maybe the exception of Penn, Colgate and Towson. I am perfectly fine playing Colgate in the first game and we basically work our way to playing Virginia, Nova and Temple. Gives Amar time to run the offense and for the team to gel. I think it will be a promising year but I couldn't give you any type of prediction. Gotta see this team in action.

I'm in agreement with the last few posts. My original reaction seeing it all laid out this morning was - "Not much to get excited about." But like was said, you have to factor in the Temple, Villanova, Barclay's games that are givens or games we've not about for a while. Also that schedule doesn't spell out that we'll be playing Virgina or Vandy since it's not known which yet, so it's not physically on there, and thus easy to overlook.
What I personally won't be buying in to this year is any alibi-ing for going 6-7 in the non-con. I'm honestly not sure how good the team is going to be this year, so I can't say I "expect" to win 8 or 9 games or whatever. 6 or 7 really would not surprise me. But if they do win that amount, it means they're not good. There's not enough meat there where I can abide excusing away a lot of losses to Towson and St. Peters.
Can they start 4-0, heading in to Brooklyn? That to me would be huge.

Told me Ole Miss and Georgia Tech were the southern schools and played against the same two teams right before the Barclays. Same goes for Saint Johns and Penn State. As you can see we play the same two teams Rutgers does on their non conference schedule.
So Virginia will play Vandy first. I can't imagine that Virginia will lose to Vandy. I am concerned a little bit with Rutgers though. Yes, Rutgers hasn't been very good over the past few years but I don't think they will be as bad as many are saying.
Going 4-0 before the Barclays Classic or better yet 5-0 to play Virginia sounds great. The good thing is will get a gauge on this team early whether that's good or bad.

it's been since Steve Smith's senior year that I feel like we had a really strong start to the season - that teams won their first 5 or 6 games, and it was nice to be on a roll right out of the gate.
Even our best team of the last 20 years wasn't exactly on fire out of the gate, so it would be a nice change of pace.

I was told in mid-May by someone close to the program that there was a 90% chance that La Salle would be playing Virginia the first night of the Barclay's tournament. A few people on the Rutgers Rivals board are under the impression they open against Vanderbilt.

I was told in mid-May by someone close to the program that there was a 90% chance that La Salle would be playing Virginia the first night of the Barclay's tournament. A few people on the Rutgers Rivals board are under the impression they open against Vanderbilt. It's funny because I heard it from someone affiliated with Rutgers program. I have to take a look at the forum. What I heard is Barclays knows Vandy and Virginia is the premier game and wants that game to happen. However, Ole Miss Saint Johns was suppose to be the premier game last year and played "weaker" opponents but Penn State beat Saint Johns so the "premier" game never happened as anticipated. It seems as though they want to guarantee that Virginia and Vandy play one another. Winning the Barclays Classic doesn't seem to be that special either. Another thing I was made to believe is how the scheduling was done. As I said before Saint Johns and Penn State played the same two teams before playing one another. We play the same two teams as Rutgers. I don't see how or why that would change. However, I can't complain if we get to play Virginia first. Thats the main goal anyway so I am hoping your right. However, we shall see in the next couple weeks. Last year, the games were announced around the first week of July.

Temple a top 50 team this upcoming season? They will probably be better than last season, but to be a top 50 team would be a big stretch for them.

I'm hard pressed to think of another time when a team essentially started from scratch like this. We graduated an entire backcourt (save Lewis) and replaced them with some experience, albeit in a different uniform.
G is not afraid to experiment. It's one of my favorite things about the good Doctor.
In his tenure, we've seen so many different types of interesting strategies. We've seen a roster of all swing men, four guard lineups, five in/five out substitutions and a lot of other things I'm forgetting.
I'm so excited for the season already since I have absolutely no idea what to expect.

Very good news. Happy a was wrong about Rutgers.
Talk about one BIG stretch. UVA 11/28, Rutgers/Vandy 11/29, Nova 12/3, Temple 12/6, Drexel (CAA contender) 12/13, and American (Patriot favorite) 12/16.
