Former Dunphy protege bites the dust.
Could BC come calling for G? Knows New England, great recruiter with a dribble-drive-motion offense tailored for high-level talent, recent NCAA success.

VA Tech is hiring, too.
I know we don't want to think about it but G's a good coach. The team had a down year this past season, which may help us keep him. But he's going to get his name floated for every job out there. Just the nature of the business.

Mind you, if the timing was different, Donahue would have been an ideal fit for La Salle. He's from Delaware County, went to Bonner and Ursinus, and was a UPenn assistant before he landed at Cornell and lucked out getting Ryan Whitman and Jeff Foote and a hot streak.
If we had an opening after that season, I could very easily see him being a rumored candidate to come here.
I hope that we don't have to think of possible G replacements but if we do, then I'm thinking Neubauer at Eastern Kentucky, which seems like a really hard job considering there are D-1 schools (and maybe I'm missing one or two) in the state, with only Kentucky or Louisville as powerhouses.
I also like Andrew Toole at Robert Morris. He also graduated from UPenn. RMU's come a conference championship game away from making back-to-back NCAAs and also has won first-round games in the NIT two years in a row. Frighteningly, he's also three years younger than me.

Could it be time for the annual Keepers and Goners thread?
How about that Bruce Pearl going to Auburn! I think the Tennessee fans would have liked to have had him back. I think G is a lifer here at this point.
Speaking of BC....maybe Monte Ross would be given a look..
Maybe it is time for Penn to make a move, also.

Toole would be a crazy pick up for the school… We would be very lucky… Unlucky for us, the guy who signs his paycheck balked at us in the last minute because of a local, former institution (that he has ties with) and called him offering a certain position in the near future…

If G were to take a major conference job, I would probably offer the position to Explorer Steve because I think he could get the right assistant coaches on board and assistant coaches are the linchpin of team athletics.

Shaka Smart to BC? Perfect opportunity for him. ACC, and nowhere to go with that program but up.

I think G is a lifer at this point as well other than a few potential "dream" jobs. The fact that a good chunk of funding is secured for a new facility will probably help keep him here for a bit longer, but you never can tell. Hard to argue if a school offers the kind of money you can retire on.
If we lost G I would be very sad because of the great face he has put on the school and program as an ambassador, but there are alot of great candidates out there if it was necessary to replace him. Fortunately, we have the financial resources from last year's run to make a better offer to a candidate than we would have 3 years ago.
I think Neubauer likes his gig in E.KY, feel like I read an article where he said he likes the lifestyle he has. I can't imagine coaching in Philadelphia would be anything like being in Easter Kentucky. Toole would be great b/c of the Philly connection....would we bring Donahue in here? Basically a straight-up trade of G for D? Would anyone consider Bruiser?

I'm with you. Think of the "talent" Steve has at his disposal. There's coachD, Jack, BK Seginsda, Neo-Con and Chinkster to name a few. Plus he's got some real juice going with "The Cos". There's no doubt that he'd take our program to new heights.

Those luxury boxes in our new facility would have a waiting list of celebs and political power players....
Plus, the officials wouldn't stand a chance.

I believe Shaka Smart turned down NC State after he had the NCAA run a couple of years ago. I hope he stays at VCU... I hope both Archie and Shaka stay put as well. They are the face of their respective programs, as is Martelli, and even G. A10 has created its own identity, and hopefully all coaches (& teams) stay put. The 6 bid conference has a lot to be proud of and it needs to maintain that stability. It has become a great competitive conference. X, Butler and Temple all left, and I'm not so sure it was a wise move. Time will tell.

BC will probably do something stupid and bite on Amaker, giving him a shot for the trifecta of failing at 3 BCS conference jobs.
If BC bags G, the #1 target for the Explos should be Toole. No thanks re Donahue and, even more so, Bruiser.

Shaka turned down UCLA. That's one of the top five glamor jobs in the country. But VCU is the absolute perfect fit for a coach. The program is good enough to get a bid every year, good enough to get hot in the tournament, plays in a city where they have a ton of interest and enough to do but with no media pressure, etc. Shaka's wife also has a big role at VCU. They're the it couple of Richmond.
Ben Howland made multiple Final Four appearances and got chased out of there.
BC should go after Toole, actually. A NEC-to-ACC leap is a huge one but Toole has something going at a commuter college in suburban Pittsburgh. Getting into the tournament in a low-tier conference is a crapshoot -- one bad shooting night or early foul trouble ruins a season. But getting into the NIT and winning two years in a row is really impressive.

Gnocchi. I think Amaker to BC and Donahue to Harvard could happen.

That would be weird, right? BC is a tough place to recruit and Amaker really doesn't have to at Harvard.

Maybe Shaka didn't want to relocate on other side of country? I think he might be angling for Duke and/or UNC down the line. BC is tough for recruiting. The talent level in New England is not the same as the mid-Atlantic coast, southeast US. Al Skinner before Donahue would seek out guys out west and/or tweener sizes that were getting minimal looks from big programs and roll the dice (ie Craig Smith).

Either Jim Calhoun is interested in the BC job or interested in seeing his name in the news.

Calhoun should want no part of Boston. He'll get actual tough local media there, not just guys in Connecticut who wouldn't dare cross him because he could have them fired and run out of town. It'll also be tougher to bully and browbeat people, including student journalists.
I really don't like Jim Calhoun even a little at all.

That's a weird move. I guess VA Tech has more money but it can't be that big of a bounce. Marquette is a really great program and has been for years. They'll have a down year every now and then (like this year) but that's a program that's consistently in the Sweet 16 and beyond. They're also a really big deal in Milwaukee (a great city) and have a ton of support.
VA Tech is just there. They can't ever get anything going. The ACC is a beast.
So Marquette... a move to the midwest? Hmm...

Scouring message boards. Ben Howland to Marquette if he wants it is the big rumor. Makes sense.
