It sucks that this didn't happen over a decade ago when Harry the K asked not to be teamed with Wheels. The Phillies will never be a successful franchise like the Cardinals or Red Sox because they are overly loyal to their employees... a good trait if you are an employee but not so great if you want to win championships. Rueben Amaro is the latest example of keeping someone too long and it will have long-term affects on the team that are not good.

The last time the Cardinals fired a manager, Romaine Haywood was an active Explorer player.

It sucks that this didn't happen over a decade ago when Harry the K asked not to be teamed with Wheels. Friendly-to-frosty coworkers in 30 years, hardly hard to believe Harry. Phillies lore -Harry liked to party and liked the ladies, especially on the road. Wheeler would take some of the surplus tail calls for Harry and use that to get dates for himself. Harry cleaned up his act but Wheeler wanted to continue the good times. Animosity grew. Whitey always suspected that Wheeler was gunning for Ashburn's forced retirement in the early 90's. Personally, I think on-air Wheeler was all right. Many in Phillies' Nation seemed to always want to one up each other on who hated Chris Wheeler the most! Summer just will not be the same without...he's a gamer, right in his wheelhouse, no doubles defense, heck of a ballplayer, middle-in, Marple Newtown HS, and meteorology 101 at PSU. What happens to Mr. Saint Joe Greg Murphy? Will he continue to drop little St. Joseph factoids in the deserted stands of Marlins Park or compare the mascot worthiness of anthropomorphic sausages in Milwaukee to the SJU(PA) Hawk?

He's a good looking ballplayer was always the one that made me laugh the most.
I can't say that I loved Wheels, but as was said above I feel like it became more of a hip thing to hate on him. I wonder how people will feel when RickyBo or Lidge are taking us through the dog days of summer. Both of those guys can be great in 5-10 minute segments on CSN, but a 2-4 hour ballgame is a different animal. I'll continue to synch it with the radio feed and will be no better/worse off that's for sure.
Greg Murphy will continue to be the in the stands reporter for this season.

The thought of Wheels having intercourse is really ruining my morning. Thanks a ton, sicguy.

It was well known that Wheels wasn't invited to the post-game dinners with Harry, Whitey and LA. It would be great to have LA join the TV broadcast team.
