That was the best two minutes of offensive basketball we played this year. Quick decisions and all within the offensive flow.

this is more like it. We do not need to eck out a victory over an 0-4 team.

Checking in when I can. Stupid engagement downtown. Glad to see we're pulling away some.
Any recaps by those who caught the whole game would be appreciated, could only catch most of the first.

Given the opponent, I saw nothing that makes me feel better going into the Providence game. Still, nice to watch a game without having to sweat it out at the wire.

This game explained a lot for me.
Like I mentioned at the beginning of the thread, for various reasons I haven't been able to watch a game yet and this was the first. And from the stat sheets I saw coming into this game, I saw Garland as a bit of a problem based on his shooting percentage, and I assumed a lot of it was him taking wild shots in an attempt to be the new Galloway.
After watching the game I feel I was half right and half wrong. There were a lot of times when Garland would just shoot wild step back jumpers or threes that he had no reason to shoot. He's a penetrator, not a jump shooter, and he should really focus on slashing inside with his speed.
On the other hand, there were at least four or five shots that he was forced to take by virtue of the fact that the shot clock wound down and he found himself with the ball. Those aren't necessarily his fault, and I can't blame him for taking a low percentage shot with only a few seconds left on the clock.
As always, there's more to it than the box score shows. Bottom line, the Explorers have to run a more efficient offense, which includes better shot selection from Garland, but also better clock management.

Anybody notice who wasn't on the floor during that last run??? Or that nice run to end the first half tonight or the 2nd half against Siena? Not me

Here in St Thomas with a loud and enthusiastic group of about 30 La Salle fans. I've been reading the posts for the last several months. I came into the season with hopes that we had finally turned the corner and would become a force again. I read some of the post of those who thought that at 2-2 the sky was falling. The other posts talking about maybe we will get better as the season goes on. Seeing the team up close, it was very frustrating to watch the team get off to a 10-2 start and then get outscored by a very mediocre Morgan State team 19-7. My impression during that stretch and for a good part of the first 10 minutes of the second half is that other than Garland, nobody wanted to shoot the ball. Mills really didn't start shooting until well into the second half. Duran doesn't shoot very often either. Finally in the last 5-6 minutes the team really opened it up and played very well. I think the problem with this team is that it doesn't have a go to player who takes the team on his shoulder and make a basket when one is needed. Guys like Durrett or Brooks or Simmons. Garland wants to be that guy but he is too erratic. Watched the last half of the Providence Vanderbilt game. Vanderbilt was up by 16 points and looked like they were going to pull away. Providence then went on a 23-6 run and completely took over the game. I think that the game on Sunday will be a real test of how good this team can be. it should be interesting.

Beating an 0-4 team from a junky little league like the MEAC by 19 points is what teams like La Salle are SUPPOSED to do.
We'll see with Providence on Sunday.

Watched game and Mils looks like best option for three ball. Garland took some threes and was way off when score was close and towards the end of game when we were way ahead he looked more relaxed and I believe he hit his last two threes. Garland should focus on driving and dishing similar to Duren who both have good skills at taking it to the basket. Morgan State is a very poor team and it will be difficult for them to win more than 6 or 7 games. Zack has good hands but terrible wheels in that his vertical jump is bad and hurts him on both ends of floor. Wright should step out and pop 12-15 footers to keep defense honest occasionally. Team looks lethargic at times and confused on offense with clock running down to near zero far to many times and then throwing up desperation shots. Next we play a fairly good Providence team and I am not optimistic based on what I have seen.

I thought we finally saw some good signs if life last night - not team is perfect and our flaws have started to be addressed and show some signs of improvement. Was happy to see expanded ball pressure on defense and the rebounding effort and focus continues to improve. I thought there was some great ball movement that have wide open looks that just wouldn't stay down. There were at least three shots that seemed to be half way down last night. Eventually those things will even out
The 2nd half was what I would like to se for a full forty minutes - forcing TOs, taking care if the ball, shooting more than 40% from the floor including beyond the arc
Garland is a concern to me, I feel like the offense flows much better without him on the floor and obviously the collective defense is better

For all of Garland's fault he has some balls. Something others on this team haven't shown, especially offensively.
We still need to score the ball. The other players can't score with wide open shots. Hopefully as they start hitting those shots (whenever that is) just through attrition Garland will stop forcing as many shots. He won't completely stop but hopefully they will reduce.
The rest of this team need to do their share with being more aggressive as well.
Sunday is a test but certainly winnable.

Agreed with Mik. It'd be great if DJ and Sam took a larger percentage of our 3s and spread the floor more for TG to attack the rim, but Sam has often been hesitant and DJ has a slow, flat release which means he needs a ton of room to shoot comfortably. Playing with 2 bigs in the paint leaves little room for TG to attack at times as well. Still, I think we've gotten a lot of high percentage shots this season and just need them to fall more consistently. Garland has certainly forced the issue too much, but we need somebody to make things happen. The way we've played this far almost makes me think the answer might be TD in more of a traditional PG role initiating nearly all of our offense. He can be relied on to make plays and make smart decisions. Might have to cut back his minutes if you put the ball in his hands even more, though. I think we'll learn a lot about this team tomorrow. PC is tough. Philly recruit Brandon Austin is suspended for them, though.

I was at the game and I agree with bill73 and mik about Garland. He is aggressive offensively and while his shot selection can be suspect, he is unafraid. Sam passes up too many looks but I think he needs more time and space to get his shot off unlike Garland who can make space. We may live and die with Garland but I would continue to start him and play him 30-32 minutes a game. He is a scorer and what he lacks in efficiency he will make up with determination to score. We will need a great effort to beat Providence. They are big and strong. After watching them and Vandy, not sure we are at that level. Really need Jerrell to stay out of foul trouble and to shoot a higher percentage of 3's to have a chance.

Hope Zack's ankle isn't stiffening up too much and I hope Lewis will be available come Sunday. It'll be an all-hands-on-deck deal.
